The brief was to design a display fixture for compact discs(CD) or mobile phone from the material that will be be given to each student. I was provided an aluminium sheet of thickness 22 gauge and dimension 300 mm x 600 mm.
The CDs have to be placed facing front, so that the cover of the CD is visible. Also one set of CDs should not block the view of the other set.
The main considerations for my design were the following
- Minimum cuts and bends
- Judicious use of material
- Easy picking up and replacement of the product
- Information on the CD easily visible to the user.
The idea is to cut two strips of the metal and make L bends which will hold the CD in an oblique position. The front of the CD is fully visible so that the customer the view the product without removing it from the fixture.
In a Retail scenario these fixtures can be used to display new arrivals or a set of CDs like trilogies as a set of three.
